BOYS TENNIS SINGLES/DOUBLES STATE FINALS FRIDAY & SATURDAY

The state finals in the annual IHSAA Boys Singles/Doubles Tennis Tournaments will be conducted this Friday and Saturday, October 22-23 at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis.  The Friday session will begin at 2:00 p.m., with the Saturday morning session at 10:00 and the championship and consolation rounds at 2:00 p.m.  There is no admission charge.

 

Jarrod Epkey (12), Center Grove, captured the 2003 singles crown, defeating Jorge Burmicky (12), Eastern (Greentown).  The tandem of Trent Glassley (12) and Brian Fleming (12), Carroll (Fort Wayne), was 2003 doubles champ, beating Scott Gray (12) and Chad Holajter (12), Munster.

2004 SOCCER TOURNEY ADVANCES TO REGIONAL ROUND

The 11th Annual IHSAA Boys and Girls Soccer Tournaments head to regional action today and tomorrow,  October 19 (girls) and 20 (boys), with the semi-states on October 23 and the state finals on October 30.

2004 IHSAA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT SET TO KICKOFF

The 32nd Annual IHSAA Football Tournament Series will kick off this week, with a field of 311 teams aimed at a singular goal, an appearance in one of the five state championship contests at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis on November 26-27.

 

The defending 5A state champion, Warren Central, will begin tournament play by hosting North Central (Indpls.).  The 2003 4A winner, Roncalli, opens up at home against Westfield.  Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, defending 3A titlist, is home to Indianapolis Washington in its opener.  In class 2A, Tri-West Hendricks will host Cloverdale.  Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter will be on the road as it begins defense of its class A crown, traveling to North Decatur.

2004 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT STARTS THURSDAY

The 33d Annual IHSAA Volleyball Tournament Series will take to the courts beginning this Thursday, October 21, at 64 sectional sites throughout the state. 

 

The 2003 class 4A champ, Indianapolis Cathedral, will host its own sectional and open up against Lawrence Central.  Brebeuf Jesuit, defending 3A champion, will also play sectional host and will meet Lebanon in its opener.  Muncie Burris, looking for its 16th volleyball title, opens up defense of its 2003 crown in 2A action against Knightstown at Eastern Hancock.  Morristown will also be at home and will begin action against Morton Memorial as it opens play in defense of its class A win a year ago.

 

Jasper is the all-time leader in sectional crowns.  The Wildcats have taken home 27 first-place trophies and will open tourney action against Princeton in the Gibson Southern sectional.  Clinton Prairie and Evansville Mater Dei are next in line, with 24 sectional titles each. CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS MOVE TO SEMI-STATE

The girls and boys cross country tournaments advance to the semi-state round on Saturday, October 23, at Franklin Central, New Haven, New Prairie and Bloomington North high schools.

The state finals will be held on Saturday, October 30 at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.

Culver Academies senior Neven Fingerhut broke the school record for rushing yardage in a single game with 322 yards against Fairfield on October 15, breaking the previous mark of 311 set by John Mosely in 1978.

 

Senior tailback Brandon Charlton set two Castle school records against Evansville Memorial on October 16.  His 51 carries and 312 yards are both new marks.
