2004 SOCCER TOURNEY TITLES ON THE LINE SATURDAY

The 11th Annual IHSAA Boys and Girls Soccer Tournaments championships will be on the line this Saturday at Kuntz Stadium

in Indianapolis.  The girls action will get underway with semifinal play on two fields at 10:00 a.m., with their championship game at 6:00 p.m.  The boys will begin play on two fields at 12:00 noon, with the title contest at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets are priced at $8.00 per session, or $12.00 for a season ticket for both sessions.

 

Carmel is a seven-time girls soccer champion, having won the last four trophies, as well as finishing first in 1994, 1995 and 1997.

 

Fort Wayne Canterbury has captured a trio of boys state championships, including 1997, 1998 and 2001.

CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS RUN SATURDAY

The state finals for the 59th Annual Boys Cross Country Tournament and the 24th Annual Girls Cross Country Tournament will be held on Saturday, October 30 at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.

 

Lane assignments are available at 2004 Girls Cross Country State Finals Lane Assignments and  2004 Boys Cross Country State Finals Lane Assignments.

 

The 2003 boys champion, Columbus North, returns, looking for their third successive crown.  Valparaiso, likewise, will be searching for its third in a row and fifth overall in girls competition.

 

Brock Hagerman of Pendleton Heights turned in the best boys semi-state time with a 15:19.00 at Franklin Central.  Adele Mitchell, running for Fort Wayne Concordia, had the best semi-state time for the girls with a 14:11.70 at New Haven.

 

The girls will lead off the action at 1:00 p.m., followed by the boys at 1:45.  Admission is $5.00.

 

Carmel holds the honor of having captured the most girls team cross country titles with 10, the last coming in 2001.  The Greyhounds are also the boys all-time state champ leader, also with 10, their most recent occurring in 1996.  A complete listing of former state champions is on the web at IHSAA Boys Cross Country State Champions and IHSAA Girls Cross Country State Champions.

2004 IHSAA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT MOVES TO 2ND ROUND

The IHSAA Football Tournament Series moves to the second round of sectional play this Friday evening. 

 

The defending 5A state champion, Warren Central, will host Lawrence North.  The 2003 4A winner, Roncalli, travels to McCutcheon.  Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, defending 3A titlist, stays home to play Crawfordsville. In class 2A, Tri-West Hendricks, last year’s state champ, goes to Cascade.  Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter continues defense of its class A crown, playing host to Milan.

2004 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT ADVANCES TO REGIONAL PLAY

The 2004 IHSAA Volleyball Tournament Series advances to the regional round this Saturday at 16 sites throughout the state.

 

The 2003 class 4A champ, Indianapolis Cathedral, plays Avon at Center Grove.  Brebeuf Jesuit, defending 3A champion, travels to Yorktown to meet Connersville.  Muncie Burris continues defense of its 2003 crown in 2A action by going up against Union County at Triton Central.  Morristown also continues play in defense of its class A win a year ago, heading for South Decatur and a matchup with Rising Sun.

 

Muncie Burris is the all-time leader in regional crowns.  The Owls have taken home 19 regional titles.  For a look at the complete regional titlists list, by total, log on to IHSAA Girls Volleyball Regional Winners.

IHSSCA PRE-SEASON SWIMMING POLLS RELEASED

The Indiana High School Swimming Coaches Association has released its pre-season girls and boys swimming polls.  Last year’s girls state champs, Carmel, is pre-season ranked No. 1 as the Greyhounds look toward their 20th state title.  On the boy’s side, the 2004 state winner, also Carmel, holds down the pre-season No. 3 position, behind Center Grove and North Central (Indpls.).

Senior Megan Kikkert reached 1,000 career Kills for the Kankakee Valley volleyball team.

 

Demetrice Jefferson set a Ben Davis school record for yards rushing in a single game with 312 against Southport in the opening sectional tournament game.  The Giants also school marks for team yards rushing in a single game (497) and team rushing attempts in a single game (56).
