SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR JERRY BAKER TO LEAVE IHSAA STAFF

Commissioner Blake Ress announced today the resignation of Jerry Baker, Sports Information Director.  Baker will leave the IHSAA effective January 31, 2005 after serving the Association for three years.

During Baker’s tenure the Association has developed a championship radio network of over fifty stations that broadcast state championship games in football and boys and girls basketball. Additionally, the expansion of technology, including the increased popularity the IHSAA’s web site (www.ihsaa.org), has been significant.

“Jerry has worked extremely hard to meet the demands of the media and our member schools,” said Ress.  “His dedication and the aura of professionalism that he brought to the Association have been sincerely appreciated.”

A graduate of Sullivan High School and Indiana State University, Baker plans to continue his broadcasting career.  He was the television voice of IHSAA sports from 1978 until joining the staff.  Jerry currently is a part of the broadcast team for the Indy Racing League.

Baker noted, “During my tenure with the IHSAA, I have learned a great deal about the inner workings of the organization and just how sincere and dedicated the entire staff is in its efforts to promote high school sports in every portion of the state.  I had no concept of just how complicated it is for such an organization to facilitate the needs and demands of nearly 400 member schools.  I only wish more fans, athletes and school personnel could gain more insight to the IHSAA and their attention to detail in the governing of sports in Indiana, both on and off the court.”

Ress indicated that the job description is currently being revised and application materials to fill the vacated position will be available on December 6.  Interested applicants should request an application in writing from Ress at the IHSAA office.  The deadline for submitting applications will be January 10, 2005.
