JASON WILLE NAMED IHSAA SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR

Indiana High School Athletic Association Commissioner Blake Ress announced today that the IHSAA Executive Committee has approved the selection of Jason Wille as Sports Information Director for the organization, taking over for Jerry Baker, who resigned the position earlier this month.

As the Association’s fourth SID, Wille (pronounced Willie) will report directly to Commissioner Ress, while working closely with the Communications Director, a new position for which the Association is currently accepting applications. Wille will be responsible for promoting the IHSAA’s 20 state tournament events through the organization’s website and news releases as well as acting as a liaison with the statewide media. He will begin his duties on February 1.

Wille is in his 10th year as an employee of the IHSAA after being promoted to the position of Assistant Sports Information Director in January 2002. He was hired in July 1995 as Publications Coordinator and was responsible for the annual production, editing and distribution of the Association’s numerous publications and forms including all state championship programs.

Jason Wille has been a very hard-working and loyal member of the IHSAA staff and has earned this opportunity,” Ress said. “I am confident he will carry on in the outstanding tradition of his predecessors.”

“I am both humbled and honored to have been asked to serve the IHSAA as its Sports Information Director,” Wille said. “It has been a career goal of mine for many years and I thank the Executive Committee and Commissioner Ress for the opportunity as well as the responsibility they have entrusted with me. During my years with the IHSAA, I’ve worked hard to develop a good relationship with the school administrators as well as the members of the media and I look forward to continuing the high level of service and standards of which they expect from this office and promoting the many achievements of our state’s student-athletes.”

Prior to joining the IHSAA, Wille worked as a graduate assistant for one year each in the sports information offices at the University of Florida and Purdue University, where he also labored as a student assistant for four years as an undergraduate. While at Florida, one of his duties was to coordinate interviews and the overall promotional efforts for three Gator swimmers who medaled at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. He also was employed as Promotions Manager for public television station WYIN-TV in Merrillville from 1992-1994.

Wille earned a B.A. degree from Purdue University in 1991 and is also a 1986 graduate of Crown Point High School. While a high school student, he worked as a statistician for Crown Point’s girls basketball team from 1984-86, including its state championship seasons in 1984 and 1985. He also played tennis three years and served as team manager.

He and his wife of three years, Sherry, and their 11-week-old son, Max Jacob, reside in Carmel.

Applications for the position of Communications Director will be accepted through January 10, 2005.
