CHRIS BREACH NAMED DISTRICT I MEDIA SERVICE AWARD WINNER

Chris Breach, sports editor for the Logansport Pharos-Tribune, has been selected as the 2004-05 recipient of the IHSAA Distinguished Media Service Award for District I.

Breach will be honored on Saturday afternoon, February 12, 2005 in a special ceremony at halftime of the Caston vs. Cass boys basketball game at Caston High School.  IHSAA Commissioner Blake Ress will be on hand for the presentation, along with Miss Debb Stevens, athletic director at Caston High School and a member of the IHSAA Board of Directors.

This is the 21st year the IHSAA has recognized an outstanding member of the Indiana media from each of the three IHSAA legislative districts for excellence in the coverage of high school sports. District I covers 22 counties across northern Indiana. Breach is the third honoree for this year, joining Tom Byrum, sportswriter for the News-Gazette in Winchester and broadcaster for WZZY Radio (District II), and Lee Kelly, Radio/Television teacher at New Albany High School (District III).

In his position with the newspaper, Chris oversees a sports department that provides coverage of 11 area high schools, in addition to major college and professional sports.

A graduate of Indiana University with a B.A. in Journalism, his career includes stops at the Hendricks County Flyer, where he was also sports editor, and The Mooresville Times, where he worked as a reporter covering sports and the local school board, all the while contributing to the sports coverage of the daily sister publication, the Martinsville Daily Reporter.

In 2003, the Logansport Pharos-Tribune sports staff, under Chris’ guidance, claimed Associated Press third place honors in deadline sports reporting for its coverage of the Cass High School boys basketball state championship game.

Chris has also found time to do some writing on his own, publishing the book “Modern History of Logansport Baseball” and a collection of short stories, “Three Diamonds”.

On behalf of its 398 member schools, the Indiana High School Athletic Association is pleased to salute Chris Breach and recognize his dedicated service to high school athletics in the state of Indiana by presenting him with the 2004-2005  IHSAA Distinguished Media Service Award for District I.
