IHSAA PARTNERS WITH HOOSIERAUTHORITY.COM AS OFFICIAL INTERNET PROVIDER

The Indiana High School Athletic Association has designated HoosierAuthority.com (www.hoosierauthority.com) as its Official Internet Provider for its 12 championship tournaments remaining in the 2005-06 school year.

HoosierAuthority.com will provide a professionally-produced web cast at every state finals event for the rest of the academic year.

This agreement kicked off with coverage of all five football state championship games at the RCA Dome in November.  Winter action begins with the girls swimming and diving state finals on Feb. 10-11 and continues with individual wrestling (Feb. 17-18), boys swimming and diving (Feb. 24-25), girls basketball (Mar. 4), gymnastics (Mar. 18), and boys basketball (Mar. 25).  The spring championship season starts with girls track on June 2, followed by girls tennis and boys track (June 3), softball (June 9-10), boys golf (June 13-14), and baseball (June 17).

“If you desire to fully cover all high school sports, it is imperative that you have a strong partnership with the IHSAA,” said HoosierAuthority.com executive director Mike McGraw.  “This agreement goes a long way in helping us fulfill our mission of enhancing ALL high school sports.”

HoosierAuthority.com is a complete source of news, statistics, chat rooms, editorial opinion, instruction, and local sports memorabilia and merchandise for Indiana high school athletics.  It debuted in March of 2005.

HoosierAuthority.com produces “Indiana Sports' Greatest Moments” -- a four-minute, 30-second weekday radio program voiced by the award-winning Jerry Baker and aired daily on more than 30 Indiana radio stations around the state.  This program honors the historic contributions of Indiana high school student-athletes, their coaches, schools, parents and fans, presents the factual accounts of teams, games, tournaments, seasons, and Indiana cities and towns, and relives highlights of the closest contests, the outstanding performances by teams and individuals, and the excitement and civic pride of Indiana schools and communities.

TEAM WRESTLING PAIRINGS TO BE ANNOUNCED THURSDAY

The state finals pairings for the 11th Annual IHSAA Team Wrestling State Tournament Series will be released on Thursday morning (Jan. 19) shortly after the draw is completed at the IHSAA Office in Indianapolis. The draw is scheduled for 8 a.m. EST. The regional and semi-state level pairings are pre-determined.

Following the individual sectionals on Saturday, Jan. 28, the top two teams at each site will advance intact to the regional level of the team tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Four teams will meet at each site requiring two rounds of dual competition with the winning team advancing to one of eight semi-state sites a week later. Each semi-state will have just two teams with the winner earning a spot in the state finals on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Center Grove High School.

LAWRENCE NORTH-NORTH CENTRAL BASKETBALL GAME ON ESPN2 THURSDAY

Fans of Indiana high school basketball will get to see two of the state’s best teams, including some of the country’s best players, on Thursday as Lawrence North visits North Central (Indianapolis) in a boys basketball game that will be aired nationally at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN2.

It will be the second meeting between the teams in six days as the two squared off in the championship game of the Marion County Tournament last Saturday with Lawrence North collecting a 78-55 victory. Lawrence North, the two-time defending Class 4A state champion and the current top-ranked team, is 13-0 this season and a winner of 29 straight dating back to last year. North Central is 11-2.

Last year, the two Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference rivals met three times with Lawrence North winning the latter two. North Central won the first meeting on Jan. 10, 2005, 69-63, on a neutral court in the Marion County Tournament which also was the Wildcats last setback. Lawrence North won the next meeting at home on Jan. 21, 76-47, and also triumphed 56-42 in the regional championship game at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats feature 7-0 center Greg Oden and 6-1 guard Mike Conley, both seniors who have signed to play collegiately at Ohio State, while North Central counters with junior Eric Gordon, a 6-2 shooting guard who has committed to Illinois. All three players are widely considered among the best in the country.

This will be the third appearance on the cable network in the last two seasons for Lawrence North. On Dec. 9, 2004, the Wildcats topped Poplar Bluff (Mo.), 56-40, at Hinkle Fieldhouse, and earlier this season, the Wildcats defeated Dayton Dunbar (Ohio), 69-54, in the Old Spice Red Zone Showcase, also at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
