IHSAA ACCEPTING TRANSFER REPORTS FOR HURRICANE VICTIMS

With Indiana becoming a relocation destination for some displaced individuals and families that fell victim to Hurricane Katrina last week, the IHSAA has introduced and outlined information to its member schools with regard to the transfer eligibility of these students.

“The IHSAA is very willing to assist students in getting acclimated under these special circumstances,” commissioner Blake Ress said. “We will examine each case as expeditiously as possible.”

As with any student who transfers schools and wishes to participate in interscholastic athletics at an IHSAA member school, students will need to complete an athletic transfer report and file it with the IHSAA. The IHSAA has made available to its member schools a supplemental page designed specifically for individuals and families in this situation and is to be completed in the presence of the school administrator.

Each transfer student must have a physical examination prior to participation as required for all students. In addition, the student must comply with the required number of practices, as stated in the IHSAA By-Laws, prior to participation.
