FALL TOURNAMENTS COMMENCE WITH GIRLS GOLF SECTIONALS THIS WEEKEND

The first of 20 IHSAA state tournaments begins this weekend as sectional play gets underway in the 33rd Annual Girls Golf State Tournament Series.

The top three teams, the top three individuals, including all ties for third place, excluding those individuals who advance with a team, will advance to the regional round.

Seven regional sites will host those qualifiers on Saturday, September 24 with the top three teams, the top three individuals, including all ties for third place, excluding those individuals who advance with a team, earning a spot in the state finals on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1.

Defending state champion and top-ranked Penn, which won its third state championship a year ago, will serve as host to 12 other schools in the sectional played at Juday Creek Golf Course in Granger on Saturday. The Kingsmen return all five players from last year’s team which finished as the runner-up in both the sectional and regional before winning the state crown. Now a senior, Gauck turned in a 73-74-147 at the state meet and won the individual title in a three-hole playoff with current Penn senior Julia Potter. Gauck and her Chargers teammates will open up in the 13-team sectional at the Greensburg Country Club on Saturday.

Results from each of the 21 sites will be posted to the girls golf page on the IHSAA website as they become available from the host sites.
