TRIP TO THE DOME ON THE LINE THIS WEEKEND
Ten
teams will begin to make travel plans for the state finals as the 33rd
Annual IHSAA Football State Tournament Series reaches the semi-state stop this
weekend.
Ten
games are scheduled around the state – seven on Friday and three on
Saturday – with the victor in each game earning a trip to the RCA Dome in
Of
the 20 teams still alive, there are 11 former state champions including two of
last year’s winners – three-time champion Roncalli
in Class 4A and two-time defender Warren Central in 5A. Tri-West Hendricks, the
2003 and 2004 champ in 2A, fell to
Roncalli will attempt to set a new state record for most
consecutive post-season victories on Saturday when the Rebels travel to Jasper.
Roncalli tied the mark last weekend with its 17-7
victory over
Warren
Central meanwhile will be looking for its 17th straight tournament
win when the Warriors host
There are no
rematches from regular season action among the 10 games, though a couple of
games are between schools that are well-acquainted at this level of the
tournament.
In Class 3A,
Indianapolis Bishop Chatard and Heritage Hills will
meet for the fifth consecutive year in a semi-state game. Bishop Chatard, which will host, holds a 3-1 advantage during that
time while Heritage Hills won last year’s contest, 13-10. With the exception
of the 2002 game, each has been played in
Roncalli
and Jasper will be meeting for the fifth time in the semi-state with the Rebels
winning three of the previous four games. Prior to this Saturday’s game,
the only other meeting in Jasper came in 1994, a 10-9 Roncalli
victory. The Rebels went on to win the 3A crown that season.
Class
4A Fort Wayne South Side is the only team in the field making its semi-state
debut. The Archers took a 24-17 decision from Delta in the regional championship
game last weekend and will play at

administrators and coaches of the 10 state finalist teams will gather for a
meeting at the IHSAA Office beginning at 10 a.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 21.
Coaches will be available for media interviews following the meeting at
approximately 11 a.m. local time. Information packets on each of the state
finalists, including rosters, stats and season results, will be available at
the meeting and will be posted to the IHSAA website later in the afternoon.
