GIRLS GOLF SECTIONALS BEGIN THIS WEEK
The 2006-07 fall tournament
season begins this weekend with sectional competition in the 34th Annual IHSAA Girls
Golf State Tournament Series.
A total of 266 schools and
1,871 participants are entered as 21 courses around the state will host 18-hole
action on Friday and Saturday. The top three teams, the top three individuals,
including all ties for third place, excluding those individuals who advance
with a team, will advance to the regional round.
Seven regional sites will
host those qualifiers on Saturday, September 23 with the top three teams, the
top three individuals, including all ties for third place, excluding those
individuals who advance with a team, earning a spot in the state finals on
September 29-30.
Penn won its second straight
state title last fall setting 18 and 36-hole state finals records in the
process but the Kingsmen lost all five players from the 2005 state meet. Penn
will host the 14-team sectional at Eberhart Golf Course in
Of last year’s top 10
individuals at the state meet, only four are entered in this year’s
tournament – Evansville Memorial senior Ellen Mueller; South Bend St.
Joseph’s sophomore Anne Ormson; Noblesville junior Abby Cotter and;
Warsaw senior Emily Johnson.
Mueller is the top returnee
following a tie for state runner-up honors in 2005. After finishing one shot
back (144) last year, she’ll begin this year’s tournament trail at
the 18-team sectional at Fendrich Golf Course in

FALL AREA PRINCIPALS MEETINGS BEGIN FRIDAY
The Indiana High
School Athletic Association will conduct meetings in each of the three
legislative districts over the course of the next five weeks. Member school
administrators, athletic administrators and superintendents should plan to
attend one of these meetings designed to provide information on recent changes
in IHSAA rules and procedures as well as future changes under consideration. The meetings also provide elected Board
representatives and the Commissioner the opportunity to listen to your concerns
and opinions.
