13TH STATE SOCCER TOURNAMENT PAIRINGS DRAWN THIS MORNING

A field of 268 boys teams and 237 girls teams are entered as pairings for the 13th Annual IHSAA Soccer State Tournament Series were drawn this morning in Indianapolis.

The early rounds of the boys tournament will see significant changes from previous years including a new four-week format resulting in a start one week earlier than the girls tournament. Included in the changes are a move from 32 to 64 sectionals as well as a four-team regional round played Wednesday and Saturday. Previously, the boys regionals consisted of a single match played mid-week.

Boys sectional action will be played Thursday, Oct. 5, and Saturday, Oct. 7, with each sectional hosting four or five teams. The 16 regionals will host four teams each and be played Wednesday, Oct. 11, with championship matches on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The semi-states will be played Saturday, Oct. 21, and the state finals Saturday, Oct. 28, both using the familiar four-team formats.

Defending state champion and current No. 4 North Central of Indianapolis opens up in its own sectional against No. 12 Brebeuf Jesuit, while top-ranked Carmel will host Fishers in the Carmel Sectional.

The girls sectionals will begin Monday, Oct. 9, at 32 sites and run through Saturday, Oct. 14. The one-match regionals are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 16 sites with the four semi-states three days later on Saturday, Oct. 21. The state finals will be Saturday, Oct. 28.

Defending state champion and current No. 2 Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger opens against Columbia City at the Homestead Sectional while No. 1 Noblesville will meet Lebanon at the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional.
