JOE GENTRY TO LEAVE IHSAA EXECUTIVE STAFF

IHSAA Commissioner Blake Ress announced today the resignation of Communications Director Joe Gentry effective October 9 to become Director of Sports Marketing and Corporate Sponsorships at Butler University.

During his tenure, Gentry served as liaison between the Association and the new Indiana Cable Network as well as its various corporate partners, provided support during all of its 20 state championship events and also produced the official state championship programs.

“Joe Gentry has been a valued member of the IHSAA staff,” Ress commented.  His personality and ease with the media has served the IHSAA well. We certainly hate to lose him, but at the same time think it is important that individuals like Joe take advantage of career opportunities when they arise.  We are confident that he will be a great addition to the Butler athletic department.”

The 42-year-old Gentry joined the IHSAA in February 2005 following 17 years at the University of Indianapolis where he worked as Associate Director of Athletics and Sports Information Director.

“It has been an honor to work for the IHSAA and I enjoyed my tenure greatly,” said Gentry.  “It is difficult to leave the association, but I’m excited to return to my alma mater.”

Gentry graduated cum laude in 1986 from Butler University earning a B.S. degree in radio/television while playing for the Bulldogs tennis team on an academic/athletic scholarship. A Lafayette native, he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1982 and earned four letters in tennis.

Ress said applications will be accepted for the vacated position until Oct. 30 with the intention of concluding the process prior to Thanksgiving. Interested individuals should request an application from Ress in writing.
