2007, 2008 FOOTBALL CLASSIFICATIONS ANNOUNCED

Commissioner Blake Ress announced today the enrollment figures and classifications for each football-playing member school for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years.

The enrollment figures, the total of boys and girls in grades 9-12, were submitted by the member schools to the Indiana Department of Education and are used to determine which schools play in each of the five classifications.

Football is now reclassified every two years following action taken by the IHSAA Board of Directors at its May 1, 2006 meeting. Football had previously been reclassified every four years.

A total of 56 schools will play in a different classification than they had in the previous four-year cycle. Sectional assignments will be announced this spring.

Also, per IHSAA By-Law, C-2-3c, a school may opt to play up one or more classes in a specific sport for that classification period by notifying the Association Office.
