EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE APPROVES CHANGES TO 2009 BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

Acting on a proposal put forth by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA), the IHSAA Executive Committee unanimously approved moving the current mid-week regional in the state tournament to the preceding Saturday beginning in 2009.

The measure was approved by an 18-0 margin during the group’s monthly meeting on Thursday in Indianapolis but does not affect this spring’s state tournament. Representatives of the IHSBCA made the proposal to the Executive Committee during its December 13 meeting.

As a result, sectional games around the state will begin the week before in a Thursday-Friday-Monday format. From there, sectional champions will advance to a four-team regional the following Saturday from which regional champions would play in a two-team semi-state. Currently, the regional is a two-team affair played on a Tuesday and is followed by a four-team semi-state that Saturday.
