GIRLS GOLF SECTIONALS BEGIN THIS WEEKEND
The 2007 fall tournament
season begins this weekend as 277 schools and 1,914 participants begin
sectional competition in the 35th Annual IHSAA Girls Golf State Tournament
Series.
Twenty-eight (28) courses
around the state – seven more than in previous years – will host
18-hole action on Friday and Saturday. The additional sectionals were approved
by the IHSAA Executive Committee at its June 21 meeting and equals what is
offered in the boys tournament in the spring. The top three teams, the top
three individuals, including all ties for third place, excluding those
individuals who advance with a team, will advance to the regional round.
Seven regional sites will
host those qualifiers on Saturday, Sept. 22, with the top three teams, the top
three individuals, including all ties for third place, excluding those
individuals who advance with a team, earning a spot in the state finals on
September 28-29.
Results from each of the 28
sites will be posted to ihsaa.org as they become available from the host sites.
Girls Golf Sectionals
Dates: Sept. 14, 15, 17, 2007.
Admission: Free.
Advancement to Regionals: Top three teams who post a team score; Top three low
individuals, including all ties for third place, excluding those individuals
who advance with a team.

TOURNAMENT DRAW DATES SET FOR FOOTBALL, SOCCER, VOLLEYBALL
The pairings for the 35th
Annual Football State Tournament will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7 pm
ET / 6 pm CT. First round pairings for all 40 sectionals can be heard on the
IHSAA / Methodist Sports Medicine Championship Radio Network and will be posted
to ihsaa.org at the conclusion of the 90-minute broadcast. The broadcast will
originate from the lobby of Emmis Communications on Monument Circle in downtown
Indianapolis. A complete list of network affiliates will be announced in the
days leading up to the draw.
Pairings for the boys and
girls soccer state tournaments are set to be made on Monday, Sept. 24, at 8 am
ET / 7 am CT while the volleyball state tournament will be drawn Monday, Oct.
8, at 8 am ET / 7 am CT. Both tournaments will be drawn at the IHSAA Office in
Indianapolis. Complete pairings for each will be posted to ihsaa.org.
MUNCIE
BURRIS VOLLEYBALL COACH NAMED TO NATIONAL HALL OF FAME
Muncie Burris volleyball
coach Steve Shondell is one of three individuals who will be inducted into the
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame this winter.
The winningest volleyball
coach in the state of Indiana with more than 1,070 victories in 31 years,
Shondell will be honored at the organization’s national convention in Sacramento,
Calif. on December 13. Shondell ranks among the top eight all-time winningest
volleyball coaches in the country having guided the Owls to 18 state
championships including 10 consecutive in Class 2A.
He is the second member of
his family to be inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame joining his father, Don,
who was a charter inductee in 2003.

FALL
AREA PRINCIPALS MEETINGS BEGIN THURSDAY
The Indiana High School
Athletic Association will conduct meetings in each of the three legislative
districts over the course of the next five weeks. Member school administrators,
athletic administrators and superintendents should plan to attend one of these
meetings designed to provide information on recent changes in IHSAA rules and
procedures as well as future changes under consideration. The meetings also
provide elected Board representatives and the Commissioner the opportunity to
listen to your concerns and opinions.
