STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY PAIRINGS SET

The pairings for the 36th Annual IHSAA Volleyball State Tournament Series were drawn this morning by Commissioner Blake Ress at the IHSAA Office in Indianapolis.

 

Three hundred ninety-five schools (395), one more than last year and the most since 1985, have entered this year’s tournament with sectional play beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and finishing on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 64 sites across four classifications.

 

Regional matches will be played Saturday, Oct. 27, at 16 sites with the winners advancing to the state finals in and around Muncie on Saturday, Nov. 3.

 

Class 2A top-ranked Muncie Burris begins its quest for its 11th straight state championship with Elwood in Sectional 41 at Wapahani. Among other current No. 1 teams, 4A defending state champion Indianapolis Cathedral opens on its own floor against Lawrence North in Sectional 10. In 3A, Mishawaka Marian will face Culver Academies in Sectional 19 at Plymouth. And in Class A, Cowan will play Liberty Christian in Sectional 54 at Daleville.

 

Marquette Catholic, the three-time defending champ in Class A, will start up against home-standing Triton in Sectional 50. Roncalli, the defending 3A champ, begins with Beech Grove in Sectional 26 at Indianapolis Broad Ripple.
