TEAM WRESTLING TOURNAMENT PAIRINGS ANNOUNCED

The pairings for the 14^th Annual IHSAA Team Wrestling State Tournament were drawn this morning at the IHSAA Offices in Indianapolis.

A total of 311 schools begin sectional competition on Saturday, Jan. 31, in the individual tournament from which the top team at each site advances intact into the regional round of the separate team tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

This year’s team tournament will have a different look from previous years as the eight state finalist teams will now be determined at the eight regional sites. Sectional runner-up teams no longer advance to the team tournament and the elimination of the semi-state round were among changes approved by the IHSAA Executive Committee at its Nov. 7 meeting.

Mishawaka, the defending state champion and top-ranked team in the latest poll from the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association, begins its quest for another title in its own nine-team sectional on Jan. 31.

Team Regionals

Admission: $6.

Qualifiers: The championship team in the individual sectional tournament advances to the regional round of the team tournament.

Advancement: This is a single elimination tournament in which the winning team advances to the next round.
