Nofrini ties scoring record, Park Tudor dominates for first state championship

After falling just short of a Class 1A state title a year ago, second-ranked Park Tudor completed the climb to the top in emphatic fashion by beating Greenwood Christian, 9-0, to claim the program’s first state title.

A year ago, Park Tudor fell by a 2-1 score to Westview in the semi-state and Westview went on to claim the state title.

This time coach Andrew Kieman’s squad took out Westview in the semi-state final, then left no doubt in the title game by scoring a state-finals record eight goals in the first half, without allowing GCA even a shot during the first 40 minutes. All eight goals were scored in the final 19 minutes of the half.

The Panthers (20-2-1) thus completed a perfect postseason by winning six games – including victories over the No. 1-ranked team (Westview), No. 3 University and No. 4 Faith Christian – all without allowing a goal.

Senior Francesco Nofrini led the scoring parade with a championship record-tying three goals, all in the first half, while George Ferguson added two goals and an assist.

David Mokaya and Elliott Scotten each had a goal and an assist, while Carson Shattuck added the final goal of the half for the Panthers. Teddy Kramer netted the final goal with under five minutes remaining. Matthew Bender recorded the shutout in goal, playing the first 75 minutes.

Greenwood Christian, coached by Micah Estes, was making its first state finals appearance after finishing only 3-12 last season. The Cougars finished this season at 11-8-3.

Parker Satre of Greenwood Christian Academy receives Cato Mental Attitude Award

Parker Satre of Greenwood Christian Academy was honored as the recipient of the C. Eugene Cato Mental Attitude Award following the match.

Parker is a four year varsity soccer athlete, earning the Leadership Award his sophomore year. He led the Cougars as a captain his junior and senior seasons. He also was a member of the basketball and golf teams competing in the regional round twice.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, while participating in Student Government. His studious habits earned him a spot on the honor roll for the past three years. He was awarded the GCA Cougar Award for his leadership and character among his fellow students. Parker went to the U.S. West Point Leadership Academy as one of the two representatives for his class. He won an award for being a leader among leaders.

An IHSAA member school since 2004, he becomes the first Greenwood Christian athlete to earn an IHSAA mental attitude award.

The son of Jamie and Catherine Satre of Greenwood, Indiana, Parker Satre will attend either Cedarville or Asbury for college.

The award is annually presented to a senior, who is nominated by his principal and coach, and has demonstrated excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability during his four years of high school. The award is named in honor of Mr. Cato, who served the IHSAA as its fifth commissioner from 1983 to 1995. During his tenure, boys and girls soccer became the 19th and 20th sports to be sponsored by the IHSAA.

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, a proud corporate partner of the IHSAA, presented a $1,000 scholarship to the general scholarship fund at Greenwood Christian Academy in the name of Parker Satre.
