IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (4-20-2020)
"Promoting education based athletics in Indiana"
If you are a student-athlete during this 2020 school year, you will remember it forever as it becomes part of world history. Classes online, games cancelled, no proms, social distancing and no formal graduation.
Speaking of history, there is no better time to check out the history of the sport you play than right now. You should have more free time than you would during a normal school year, so I encourage you to research the sports you play and find out about the history of those sports.
Who invented your sport? What year did it come into existence? How has it changed over the years? Where does it rank in popularity? Who are the past stars?
As you dive into the history be sure to do the same research of your own high school. Who were the former coaches? What kind of tradition does your school have? Who are the former players that played a role in the school's success? What are the school records? Who were the great teams and why?
Knowing more about the history of your sport and the role it has played at your school can help you realize the importance of all of those who played before you, and hopefully you can inspire those who will follow you in the future!
