Top-ranked Carmel swam its way to a 103-point victory at the Carmel Sectional as 20 sectional champions from around the state were crowned Feb. 5, 2000. It was the 16^th consecutive sectional championship for the defending state champion Greyhounds and 17^th overall in the 26 years the IHSAA has conducted a tournament series in girls swimming and diving.

Columbus North compiled the state's highest winning sectional total with 417 points at the Columbus North Sectional. Hamilton Southeastern had 386 points in winning the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional, while Munster accumulated 380 points to win the Munster Sectional. Columbus North's triumph also extended the state's longest sectional title streak to 17 years.
