Elizabeth Hedde and Brittany Perkins of Vincennes Lincoln emerged as the top tandem in the 10^th Annual IHSAA Doubles State Finals on Saturday, June 10, 2000 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Hedde, a senior, and Perkins, a junior, took a 6-3, 6-4 decision from New Castle senior sisters Sarah and Emily Dukeman in the championship match giving them a 27-2 season record. The victory also marked the first state tennis championship, boy or girls, in the school's history.

Hedde and Perkins, who also advanced to the semifinal round in 1998, worked their way into the championship round this time after a 7-5, 6-0 semifinal win over Abigail Fritz and Maralissa Mallett, both juniors, from Fort Wayne Concordia. Hedde and Perkins fell 6-3, 6-4 in the 1998 tournament to Brookley Crews and Brooke Sagalowsky of Park Tudor, the eventual state champions that year.

The Dukemans won a quarterfinal match on Friday afternoon and grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 win in Saturday morning's semifinals from Greenwood's Jaca Vukovic, a sophomore, and Karen Durham, a senior, to set up their title shot. With the runner-up medals, the New Castle team settled with a 19-1 record for the season.

In the consolation match, Vukovic and Durham completed a 18-5 season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Fritz and Mallett. Fritz and Mallett ended on a 25-4 note.
