IHSAA Employment Opportunities


The Indiana High School Athletic Association is seeking an intern to perform a wide array of sports administration duties during the fall and spring terms. This position is designed to provide an immersive experience with exposure to every aspect of the administration of high school sports across the state of Indiana.

Responsibilities include:

Provide front-line support for IHSAA official and technology questions and issues. Most of this support will be telephone support.

Perform various extracts of data from the software repositories containing school and official information. These extracts will be used in the daily support of sport administration activities as well as a part of various research projects (e.g. How many new basketball officials have applied in the last week, month, etc.)

Assist in performing background checks on officials.

Assist in supporting IHSAA Assistant Commissioners with tournament activities.

Update the IHSAA iPad displays with past champions, pictures and stories.

Perform a wide range of special projects from the IHSAA IT Director and Assistant Commissioners.

The IHSAA is a voluntary, not‐for‐profit organization that is self‐supporting without the use of tax monies. Since its founding in 1903, the Association’s mission has been to provide wholesome, educational athletics for the secondary schools of Indiana. Its member high schools ‐ public, institutional, parochial and private – pay no annual membership fee or incur entry fees to play in the Association’s tournaments. A state tournament series is conducted annually in 21 sports, 10 for girls, 10 for boys and one co‐ed (unified track and field). A 19‐person board of directors, elected by member school principals, governs the organization.


The Indiana High School Athletic Association, Inc. is seeking candidates for its internship in sports administration for the 2020 fall semester. The 2020 fall internship begins in August and continues through the end of the fall semester in December.

Compensation for the internship is minimum wage (currently $7.25/hour). Pay checks are issued biweekly throughout the internship.

In the position, the intern is expected to work in many areas with the Commissioner, the five Assistant Commissioners, the Sports Information Director, Technology Director and with the support staff.

During the internship, the successful candidate will assist with IHSAA championships, working with the Assistant Commissioner assigned to a championship and the Sports Information Director.

Daily duties will include a variety of assignments, from the compilation of statistics through our statistics service to gathering information for state championship programs and perusing various daily newspapers to find news for inclusion in our weekly press releases. Duties will be wide and varied, even to the inclusion of answering office phones.

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and our office is located on 9150 North Meridian Street, just inside the I-465 loop on the north side of Indianapolis.

Desired qualifications: Strong communications skills, detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic about high school sports, a willingness to work necessary hours to complete a task well, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe InDesign, Adobe PhotoShop, and Contribute Web authoring software. Juniors and seniors are preferred, as well as candidates who are available to work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
