IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (11-1-21)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
I spoke with a soccer parent before the state finals this past weekend, and in passing I asked about his daughter and how she is doing.
He stated that after all the ups and downs she had experienced throughout the season, he was proud that she was in a good "head space" before her big game.
It is not uncommon for a long sport season to take a toll on your confidence, motivation and drive. It can even result in doubts and uncertainty about your place on the team.
While you may practice daily on the physical aspects of your sport, you need to prepare daily as well on your mental readiness. What can you do to focus on your sport and your contribution without distraction? What can you do to get motivated and confident before a game or match? How can you and your teammates encourage each other and support each other during the season?
While you are practicing on the physical aspects of your sport everyday, be aware of your mental game as well. Being in the right "head space" for your next competition could be a game changer!
