Ed Gilliland, Associate Commissioner

Ed Gilliland was appointed IHSAA Associate Commissioner on August 1, 2022.
In his role, Gilliland works all over the state with new athletic administrators, provides support for member schools, and assists with officials recruitment and retention. Additionally, he works at state tournament events, attends member school regular season athletic events, IHSAA principals meetings, and is available for opportunities to promote the values of education-based athletics.
Gilliland joined the IHSAA having retired after 25 years as athletic director at LaPorte High School and served seven years as a member of the IHSAA Executive Committee (2015-22) including as chairman during the 2017-18 school year.
He is a long-time member of both the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (IIAAA) and the Indianapolis-based National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) earning honors and recognition from both organizations for his leadership.
A LaPorte native and graduate of LaPorte High School, Gilliland went on to earn bachelor’s and master's degrees from Ball State University. He and his wife Marie reside on their farm in LaPorte and raise horses.
