IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (1/26/26)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

Successful teams and great athletes seem to have a common denominator-and that is composure.

Webster's dictionary defines "composure" as "the state or feeling of being calm and in control of oneself."

As a student-athlete, working to keep your composure is an important part of your training.  You need to be conscious of your emotions and be able to control them regardless of the circumstance.

You will encounter situations where an official does not call a foul, or you or a teammate might miss an important play.  If you are rattled by a situation and react negatively, you are giving your opponent the advantage.   Gathering your composure quickly will refocus your attention, mind and body to the next play and performing at your best.

I have seen many individuals and teams lose as the result of losing their composure.  Work on ways to recompose yourself when adversity arises.  It might help transform you from an average student-athlete to one who is truly on the rise!
