IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (10/16/23)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

I had a coach many years ago who was always asking me, "Are you a student of the game?"  In other words, he was always challenging me to be learning, watching, and thinking about the sport I was playing--outside of practices and games.

As I look back today, I am so glad that I had enough respect for that coach and his teaching methods, so I became a student of the game that I loved, basketball.

Whatever your sport, you can become a student of the game.  How?  You can learn by watching others (live, on TV, or online) who play your position.  Find someone who you aspire to be like and follow them closely.  You can learn more about strategy, focus or mental toughness by reading about those topics.

Becoming a student of the game will only enhance your chance of becoming a better athlete.  It will take more of your time, but it will help you as you put in the hours of work on the sport you love!
