IHSAA Student Athlete Tip of the Week (11/24/25)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
Keeping your composure through tough times in an athletic contest can be tough to do at times.
Maybe you are having a bad game. Maybe your shots aren't dropping. Maybe you have become frustrated with a teammate or an opponent. Regardless, keeping your emotions in check is of upmost importance.
Composure is much easier to contain when you are winning or playing well. When things are going your way, it is easier to remain focused on the task at hand.
However, if you are losing/not playing well, it is easier to fall into the trap of placing blame and not concentrating on getting yourself and your teammates back on the right track. I have seen it far too many times when an athlete is obviously frustrated, body language is clearly showing frustration and at times, pushes/shoves/verbally shouts out of frustration.
Only you can reign in your emotions during a game or match. Don't lose your mental advantage by doing something foolish that could embarrass you, your coach and your school!
