IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (11/27/23)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

As you play athletics, you are sure to encounter many coaches, each with a different style.  Some coaches scream and holler, some are calm and collected, and others are a combination of the two.

Needless to say, most athletes prefer the calmer ones.  But are those necessarily the best coaches?  Which style gets the most out of you?

In practice, regardless of your coach, you should expect more instruction and teaching.  How your coach presents their points will vary.

Next time a coach gets on you, try and take it as a compliment!  You know why?  Coaches that get on you the most are the ones that expect more out of you as an individual.  Look at it as a code of honor that your coach knows you can perform better and wants the best for you and the team.

If you can learn to hear the message instead of how your coach delivers it, you will more likely be able to execute and improve your performance despite the criticism and become a better player in the long run!
