IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (12/19/22)

"Promotion Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

Regardless of your sport, fundamentals are a vital part of your development.  In your particular sport, you know what those fundamentals are.  That is what you spend the majority of your time working on in practice or in the off-season.

When you think of one fundamental that pertains to all sports, what comes to mind for you?  I am sure there are more than one, but to me the most important one is "conditioning".

How do you keep yourself in good shape for your sport?  Brad Stevens, the former basketball coach of the Butler Bulldogs and Boston Celtics, told me years ago that an athlete should never be more than three days away from being in top condition.

Winter break is a good time to be thinking about your conditioning.  If your sport is currently in season, you have practice and games to keep you in top shape.  If not, it is time to come up with a strategy to make sure that conditioning is a top priority for you!
