IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (3/16/26)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
Athletes at all levels will face injuries during the season of their sport. Some are minor nicks and bruises; others are more severe and may cause the athlete to take some time off.
How do you approach things when you are hurt? Some athletes want to get back as soon as possible. Others want to make sure they are 100% healed. I am sure your team trainer will work with you on the right decision.
I was moved by a quote I heard by former PGA golfer and TV analyst Notah Begay. He said, "Injury doesn't do anything to your talent. The talent is still there; it's just the timing and getting use to the work that it takes to get you back."
This was describing a golfer, but can apply to any athlete fighting an injury, big or small. If you are coming off of an injury, you have not lost your abilities. It may take a while to gain your conditioning, but your talent is still there for you!
