IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (3/18/24)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

As you look back over your fall or winter sports season, did you do everything in your power to make sure your team was as successful as it could be?

One of my all-time favorite coaches, legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden, had a quote that still resonates with me today.  "Champions never complain, they are too busy getting better."

Great athletes are made over time.  They work on all mental and physical aspects of their sport.  They don't make excuses for their weaknesses.  They are driven by those weaknesses to improve.  They don't point to others for their mistakes, but they own those mistakes and focus on limiting them.

If your focus remains on your improvement--in every aspect of your sport--you will truly understand this quote as well.  You won't be complaining about what you cannot do, because you will be improving due to the work you put in.  You will be on your way to becoming a champion of your sport!
