IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (4/3/23)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

Every once in a while, an unbelievable athlete comes along and changes history and excitement for their sport.

For Indiana fans, Peyton Manning sparked new interest in football for Hoosiers of all ages.  Youth football peaked across the state.  In golf, Tiger Woods changed the game and brought new interest and participants to a sport that is now internationally popular.  Junior golf programs grew like never before and more youth took an interest in golf.

The same has occurred in women's college basketball.  A young lady from Iowa is changing the landscape for women's college basketball.  Junior Caitlin Clark has set more NCAA records than I can name, but more importantly interest in women's basketball has grown immensely.  Games have been sold out and games she played in have set records for TV ratings.

Clark (National Player of the Year) and her Iowa Hawkeyes team lost this past weekend in the NCAA final, but she will be returning to play her last year at Iowa.  I have no doubt that interest in her play and women's basketball will only rise as she is the type of player parents want their kids to emulate, and more kids will want to be like her.  This young lady is changing the sport!
