IHSAA Tip of the Week (5/1/23)

"Promoting Education-Based Athletics in Indiana"

The Milwaukee Bucks were recently eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs, an unexpected defeat for a one seed by an eighth seed.  Their star player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, was asked in the postgame press conference if he considered the season a failure.  His answer might surprise you.

He said, "So every year you work, you work towards something, towards a goal--which is to get a promotion, to be able to take care of your family, provide a house for them, or take care of your parents.  You work towards a goal--it's not a failure.  It's steps to success...Michael Jordan played 15 years, won six championships.  The other nine years were a failure? (No)  He went on to say, "There's no failure in sports.  There's good days, bad days, some days you are able to be successful--some days you're not.  Some days it's your turn, some days it's not your turn.  That's what sports is about."

As your journey through high school sports continues, you need to focus on your goal and your steps to success.  Losing is not failing.  It is just part of the process toward getting better!
