IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (9-26-22)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

This past weekend, as I was leaving my grandson's youth soccer game, one of his opponents (who is six years old), walked by his coach and said "Thank you coach" as he was leaving to go home.

It was powerful, it was simple and it was innocent.  Two simple words that can have so much meaning.

I immediately had a feeling of how respectful this young six year old was.  It made me think, what if everyone on any given sports team had this child's attitude? How would the team be different?  How successful might they become?

A "thank you" itself does little to make a team better, but the honest gratitude of being able to practice and compete, thankfulness for a coach who leads the players and the opportunity to be on the field/court is the basis of a strong team working together with the right attitude, respect and outlook to be something special.

Whether it is on the field/court of play or some other activity, consider those around you who make the opportunity possible.  Take the time to say "thank you" to others.  It might catch on!
