IHSAA Student Leadership Conference on Tuesday

Posted: June 19, 2010

The Indiana High School Athletic Association will be conducting the Seventh Annual IHSAA Student Leadership Conference on Tuesday, June 22, at Pike High School in Indianapolis.

A total of 734 attendees in grades 9-12 representing 86 different Indiana high schools are registered to participate at this year’s conference. All will have the opportunity to meet and interact with one another, hear from several speakers, both national and local in scope, and participate in three different breakout discussion sessions covering nearly 30 wide-ranging topics.

Leadership, Sportsmanship, College Preparation, Community Service, Hazing and Captains Roles and Responsibilities are just a few of the discussion topics available to the students.

Among the featured speakers are Harvey Alston and Stephen Bargatze, both highly-acclaimed motivational speakers that have been part of the conference several times in previous years. Also on hand will be Scott McGowan and Gregory Hobbs of The After Sport Group; Corporal Josh Bleill of the United States Marine Corp; Vera Jones of Vera’s Voice Works and; Elliot Hopkins, Director of Educational Services of the National Federation of State High School Associations.

“The IHSAA Student Leadership Conference continues to serve as an avenue for us to reinforce what is learned through sports and apply that to other aspects of a student-athletes life,” says IHSAA Assistant Commissioner Sandy Searcy, who serves as the Conference Administrator. “We’re adding experts on hazing, captain’s responsibilities, and college preparation with the intention of assisting them with life skills and information they can take with them to impact their own schools and communities.”
