IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (12/4/23)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

Coaching changes have been part of the sports scene forever.  While college and pro teams change coaches more frequently than high school coaches, it happens at all levels.

Have you been impacted by a coaching change?  Adjusting to a new coach is as difficult as you make it out to be.  It is important to keep an open mind and look at the change as an opportunity to learn more from someone new.  Your relationship should start with respect for the coach and his/her position, regardless of the reason for the change.

As a student-athlete, you must learn what is important to your coach and assistants.  You must adapt to changing situations and styles and understand what is expected of you and your teammates.  Show leadership by accepting your new coach and buying into any changes the coach wants from you.

A coaching change can be a great opportunity to shine.  Don't worry about the reasons why, just stay focused on improvement and the opportunity to get better and win!
